Dave vs. The Monsters: Emergence, by John Birmingham. An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico punches through into caverns full of orc-like creatures that find humans tasty. A drug-addled, hard-drinking oversexed aggressively heterosexual oil rig worker and his trusty wood - splitting maul becomes the champion of humanity. Released May 2015. Paperback.
The Deep, by Nick Cutter. A parasitic aquatic organism found at the bottom of the Challenger Deep may be a cure for an Alzheimers - like pandemic. Released January 2015. Trade paperback.
Tomorrow War, by J.L. Bourne. Unlike the author's other books, this does not involve zombies. A Greek-like financial crisis hits the US. The government responds by imposing martial law, but hire biker gangs with drones and MRAPs to impose its will rather than use the police or military, as they have all quit their well-paying government jobs in a time of financial crisis to spend time with their families. Residents of Arkansas have fun blowing up government forces. Hardcover. Released June 2015. Good on the details, but the worldbuilding was more plausible when zombies were involved.
