English in Kosovo

In Albania, I would attempt to speak Albanian, and people would humour me and correct my pronunciation. Most people would switch to English when I was obviously stuck.

In Kosovo, everyone automatically uses English when they see me. I hand over my purchases, and they say "That will be 85 cents" before I say a word.

I asked at a grocery store how she knew that I spoke English. She translated my question to a friend, and they both laughed, but didn't answer me.
