My form when doing squats is way off. Mike says I should be doing them with the bar in front of me, resting on my collarbone, with my elbows up in the air. It wrecks my wrists, and I feel like I'm being choked by the bar. The maximum I can do without my hands falling off is 45 kg (under 100 lbs). Not only that, I can't feel any benefit to the body parts that are supposed to be working. The only leg muscle that feels exercised is my right quad, which totally doesn't make sense.
My form is better with deadlifts, now that I'm properly tightening up my back before I lift, and keeping my behind lower than my shoulders when I start. Only doing 85 kg (187 lbs), so not even my own body weight, but that's enough to feel it in my lower back, so I don't want to push it.
Does anyone have tips on how to do squats without strangling?
